Health Check-up for foreign residents Sunday, November 11, 2007

We are organizing the annual health check-up program for foreign residents again this year. All foreign residents or residents of foreign origin are encouraged to attend the event. The program is designed to allow foreign residents to undergo a comprehensive medical check-up at a very subsidized rate. This is to make sure everyone can afford an advanced health-care program. This program lets participants know about their health conditions in detail and can get advice on any preventive measures that needs to be taken. Treatment after the check-up can also be arranged. We would like all foreign residents to live a physically and mentally healthy life in Japan, and take advantage of the medical program. You can get the tests done, get physicianfs advice and/or talk with the nutritionist all within 2 hours. Translators are provided and a volunteer will guide each participant throughout the process. You will be able to take home all your check-up details. No insurance or identification is required. All records will be confidential. The following are the details of the check-up:

Location: Saku General Hospital                 Registration time: 12:00pm-1:30pm                         Fee: 1500 yen for people over 15 years old. Below that is FREE.

Tests: Blood pressure, blood test (cholesterol levels, blood cells count, etc), height, weight, BMI, dental check-up, chest X-ray, urine test, HIV test, consultation with a physician/ pediatrician/ nutritionist. You can choose one or all of the above tests. Find out if you are 100% healthy or need to improve on your eating habits, living styles, and how you can maintain perfect health.

Just for your information: Saku ranks second in terms of longevity in Japan. There are currently over 30,000 people over 100 years old in Japan.

Nepal Project Report

A total of 12 children were admitted to the facility and 9 were released bringing the September total to 58. Skin problems remain the biggest concern for children at BSG. Exact causes are unknown, but unsanitary conditions such as not being able to wash clothes regularly, insufficient balanced diet and sharing of clothing items could be some of the causes. A total of 34 students got checked by the doctor this month for various illnesses. Dr. Chandyo, the designated physician has been able to visit the facility only once this month since due to his overseas trip to attend medical conferences.
